From MARQUIS WHO’S WHO

Ocie M. Williams has been inducted into Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Williams is distinguished for more than half a century of dedicated service to his country and his local community. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, joining in 1962 as a nuclear specialist. He went on to become an infantry-training specialist for soldiers entering the Army and retired as a sergeant first class.

William’s military service is part of a long tradition in his family. His stepfather and two of his uncles also served in the Army. Today, the tradition is continuing with the next generations of the Williams family: one of his sons is currently a first sergeant at Fort Benning in Georgia and another is a retired major currently working at Maxwell Air force Base in Montgomery.

Committed to helping others, after retiring from the Army Williams began working with disabled veterans, helping them to receive the support and care they needed. After moving to Alabama, he became president of the Concerned Citizens of Chilton County, a role he served in for 25 years. In addition, he has served as the commander of the American Legion for the state of Alabama and as a commander for the Disabled American Veterans Association.

In recognition of his achievements while in the Army, Williams received a Certificate of Service for his work at Fort Benning and an Army Commendation Medal. He has also received accolades for his civic advocacy, including a Leadership Award from the Commanders Clun of the Disabled American Veterans Association, a Seeds of Kindness Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Action.

Williams holds an associate degree in constitutional law. He is a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans Association and the trustee at Union Baptist Church in Clanton.
