Rhett Brooks Churchwell pled guilty on Dec. 7 to one count of attempted murder on charges stemming from a March 27, 2021 shooting.
Other charges in the case have been dismissed, according to court documents.
As a part of the plea agreement, the state would recommend 15 years in jail and a “truthful testimony against the co-defendant.” A sentencing date has not been set.
Tommie Steven Fulmer was also charged in the incident, and his jury trial has been set for March 06, 2023.
The 2021 shooting incident was thought at the time to be related to road rage.
Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon said at the time that the victim told law enforcement that the suspects had been driving closely behind his vehicle and driving erratically. When the victim had pulled over to let them pass, they would not. Also in the vehicle were the victim’s wife and grandchild. Both of which sustained no physical injuries.
