The 2022 Relay for Life Queens and their moms had the honor of assisting the American Cancer Society with the 2022 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk/run at held Spanish Plaza Park in Mobile. There were many vendors there supporting this wonderful event.  One particular was the Gene Machine. This is a hereditary breast cancer research project at Auburn University that studies genetic screening. They have just been awarded an $800,000 research grant from American Cancer Society to continue research into identifying and studying genetic factors associated with hereditary breast cancer in the African-American community. The queens were able to greet individuals attending and help with registration. They got to meet many survivors and many who were walking/running for someone they loved that had won their battle against Breast Cancer. The Relay Queens and their moms had the honor of walking/running in honor of one of our own, Jeannie Smith, Miss Relay, Emilee Smith’s mom, who is a seven year survivor. It was a wonderful weekend seeing so many people willing to give their time and donations to help fight breast cancer.
