Isabella High School bounced back in a big way from a loss last time out with 48-14 win over Woodland High School on Oct. 21. Running back Zac Chapman needed just one half of action to pile up 220 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also added a 67-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Eli Kendrick to help aid Isabella to a 48-0 lead at halftime.

Kendrick had a great night going 9-for-11 passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Kendrick turned in a 23-yard touchdown run in the game as well.

“I thought our guys came back from a loss last week and did a good job,” Isabella coach Tate Leonard said. “They dominated the game, so I was proud of them.”

Dre’Von Lee got the Mustangs off to a fast start with a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown to open the scoring. Garrett Price doubled the Isabella lead with a two-yard touchdown run to put the Mustangs on top 14-0 just five minutes into the game.

Both of Kendrick’s touchdown passes came in the second half of the first quarter, the first a 34-yard connection to Lee, and the second was the 67-yard pass to Chapman. Isabella held a 28-0 lead after the opening quarter. Lee caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.

“We wanted to play fast and get the ball into our playmakers hands early,” Leonard said. “Our defense played lights out, and I think we only gave up one first down in the first half. They were really good.”

The second quarter was much like the first, and it was all Mustangs. Kendrick got into the end zone on a 23-yard run, and Chapman got in the end zone for his two touchdown runs, 51 and 48 yards respectively.

Woodland added two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

“I think we are getting better and better as we go (forward),” Leonard said. “That is what you want to see as a coach, and we are happy with that.”

Isabella (7-2) finishes up its regular season on Oct. 28 against Keith High School at 7 p.m. Woodland (1-8) faces Wadley High School on the same day and time in its last regular season game as well.
