The 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office released a statement Oct. 21 at the conclusion of the five-day trial of Jermink Rashon Lykes.

Lykes was found guilty of manslaughter, a class B felony with a sentencing range of 2-20 years, in the 2018 shooting of Nasson Postell, a 21-year-old resident of Clanton in Ollie Park .

In a press release the District Attorney’s Office stated “In this case, with applicable sentencing enhancements the range is 15-99 years. Circuit Judge Ben Fuller set sentencing for Nov. 16, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.”

“We respect the jury’s decision and we appreciate their service,” District Attorney C.J. Robinson said. “The Postell family was our driving motivation to continue fighting for justice. They were our rock, and I couldn’t be more proud to stand beside them today. This trial came with an unusual turn of events, and I am glad the jury was able to keep their eye on the ball and focus on the testimony of the lone eyewitness and not get distracted from their main task at hand. The City of Clanton, the Clanton Police Department and the DA’s Office all have new leadership in place since this crime occurred four years ago and Mayor Jeff Mims, Chief Erick Smitherman, and I (District Attorney CJ Robinson) accept the challenge before us to elevate our performance and the performance of our employees to the high standard our community deserves as we continue to protect, serve, seek truth, and pursue justice.”
