The Thorsby City Council received an update on the mural on the building at the corner of Rebel Street and Minnesota Avenue. Artist Presley Langley has begun painting the mural working left to right, and the mural is expected to be completed before the Swedish Festival on Oct. 8.

The council listened to a rezoning request by Charles Tanner to rezone a plot of land at 234 Peachtree Drive from medium density to agriculture. The council approved the rezoning, and Councilman Glenn Littleton abstained. Councilman Neil Benson was absent from the meeting.

The council voted unanimously to recommend Jemison Judge Craig Cleckler to fill the role of Chilton County Judge left vacant by Amanda Baxley effective Dec. 1, 2022.

The Chilton County Crushers softball program asked the council to lease practice field 1 for the program. The Crushers representative said the organization will take care of the upkeep of the grounds, maintenance and assume all of the bills for the field for the length of the lease. The Crushers also mentioned building a handicap access walkway down to the field. The council approved leasing the field to the Crushers program in a three-year agreement unanimously.

The council approved their budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year at their meeting on Sept. 19. The council approved the budget, but are waiting on some exact final numbers for retirement data. The motion to approve the budget passed unanimously.
