After their first loss of the season last week, Thorsby High School bounced back with a 42-6 win over Woodland High School on Sept. 9 to move to 3-1.

Quarterback Remington Taylor kept up his tremendous start to the season rushing for a game-high 230 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Taylor threw for 150 yards on 11-for-15 passing and two touchdowns.

Taylor’s first touchdown strike came four minutes into the game finding Christian Davenport for a 20-yard connection to make it 6-0. Taylor doubled the Rebels led in the second quarter with a 90-yard touchdown run.

“We went back to doing our job, taking care of the football and cutting down on the mistakes,” Thorsby coach Daryl Davis said. “We wanted to go into Woodland, and do all of that and get a win going into homecoming week. It was important to get back on the winning side.”

Grayson McManus was Taylor’s favorite target in the game hauling in three passes for 78 yards, one a 34-yard touchdown connection just before halftime to give Thorsby the 18-0 advantage.

McManus had a good night rushing the ball as well running for 67 yards on 11 carries. He got into the end zone in the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown run.

“Grayson and Remington work really well together,” Davis said. “They have been a big part of our offense, and were again (against Woodland).”

Up 26-0, Taylor added two touchdowns in the third quarter — an 11-yard touchdown connection to Luke Turner and a 40-yard touchdown run. Turner caught three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Woodland added a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, but could not muster anymore offense against a stout Thorsby defense. Malachi Allgood and Tyler Lockhart each had six tackles to led the Rebels defense. Davenport had a sack.

Thorsby (3-1) hosts Central of Coosa County High School on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. for the Rebels homecoming game.
