The Clanton City Council approved a resolution outlining how Rebuild Alabama Act gas tax revenue will be spent during its Aug. 22 meeting.

While the resolution did not include a list of specific roads, it commits funding to repairing roads that are in the worst condition. Condition will be determined through a software that assigns a grade to each road. The department of public works director will develop a list of top priorities from this information.

“We will have a price here pretty quick on what that is going to cost, and we will put that in the budget for next year,” Mayor Jeff Mims said in a work session on Aug. 18.

The city anticipates receiving $60,000 in Rebuild Alabama Act funding.

Final approval was also given for an increase of the business license issuance fee. The fee will now be $14.

Following a vote by the council, the parks and recreation director position is being dissolved, and the employees will be under the supervision of the director of public works. Funding budgeted for the position will be used to create another engineer position.

The city is also moving forward with a Recreational Trails program grant application.

Final approval of the School Resource Officer contract was unanimously approved.

Clanton City Hall will be closed on Sept. 5 for Labor Day.
