Summer is coming to Chilton County. The rising temperatures have many thinking of swimming in the pool or being out on the lake.
The Clanton City Council recently approved this year’s agreement with the YMCA for the public pool and details of this year’s schedule should be opening soon. Traditionally, swim lessons are also offered.
Swimming is a great way to get some exercise and cool down in the Alabama heat, but safety precautions need to be taken.
Children, especially those just learning to swim, should always have an attentive adult with them when near the water.
My grandparents had a pool when I was a child, and they were always in the water with us or near the edge of the pool. However, they moved out of town when I was in middle school, so I never really got good at swimming,

When swimming in nature bodies of water, extra care should be taken to one’s surroundings and level of tiredness to avoid being far from shore if one’s strength gives out.
As an adult who had more ready access to a pool, I have worked on improving my swimming skills. It is something I enjoy doing, but I still stay out of the deep end.
Fun on the water is a Chilton County favorite. From boating to wake boarding, Lake Mitchell is full when the season peaks. Remember to wear a lifejacket while out on the water this summer and stay hydrated.
Here’s to having a great summer!
