The Thorsby Council voted to get rid of work cellphones for its employees during a meeting on Dec. 6.

The council approved the motion by a unanimous vote.

Currently, there are five employees that have employee phones to use during work hours. The town pays $40 per month for each phone. However, most of the employees choose to use their personal cell phones to communicate instead of the employee phones.

“They’re using their personal phones to communicate,” Thorsby Mayor Robert Hight said. “I recommend we give them like $20 a month for their phone bills instead of supplying phones.”

The town will save money thanks to this motion, as the council will be paying half of what it originally was for employee phones.

The council also discussed possibilities for traffic lights on Medical Center Drive. A request was brought to the council for two traffic lights on Medical Center Drive. The council agreed that inserting two lights was not wise, but thought that putting one on the corner of Medical Center Drive and Highway 31 could be a good idea. The council agreed to look further into that.
