Each year at Thanksgiving we ask students and community leaders what they are thankful for. Each year, some of the answers are standard, such as family and food, but others are more unique, such as experiences and toys.
It is fitting that Thanksgiving is placed on the calendar where it is. A time of reflection on the good things in life leading into a season of giving and joy. Often for me, the Christmas season also holds a time of reflection on that first Christmas and all the gifts it brought.
Since I have asked countless others, it is only fair that I too share what I am thankful for this year.
This year, I am thankful for the miracles I have experienced. Large and seemingly small, God has reminded me countless times that I truly do not have to worry or be afraid. Things that might not seem important or major to anyone else but were huge things for me.
I am thankful for family that has been there for me in the countless changes I have experienced in the past two years. They have celebrated with me and listened as I tried to figure out the next new thing. I am thankful to have some family members that live in the same state as me to spend Thanksgiving Day with, even if they are in the only sliver of Alabama that is in a different time zone.
I am thankful for friends that are within driving distance and those that I got to see for the first time in several years this past summer. Someone once said adult friendships are hard, and I have found it so true but so worth it. I am thankful for the ones who put the work in.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and that this weekend is full of good things, too.
