Many people do it, including some of my closest friends.
As soon as Halloween is over and Nov. 1 comes along, they bring out the Christmas decorations and begin celebrating the Christmas season.
It is a pet peeve of mine, because many ignore what is, to me, the best holiday of the year.
November is the month of Thanksgiving. It is a holiday that is about giving thanks for what we have, and that is a really good thing to celebrate. But, it is also the one day of the year where all one is expected to do is sit down, eat delicious food and watch football all day.
To me, I can’t think of a better way to spend a day.
However, some do not give Thanksgiving the proper respect it deserves. Instead, November is just an early Christmas celebration.
There needs to be more inflatable turkeys and Thanksgiving decorations. The Christmas lights, trees and decorations can wait a month.
I have seen some Thanksgiving decorations out when driving around Chilton County. I always appreciate it when I see them. However, I believe there needs to be more.
I know that no matter what, the folks that want to celebrate Christmas early will do so. This year though, think about waiting a little while, and giving Thanksgiving its proper due before celebrating “the most wonderful time of the year.”
