The last week of regional play was an exciting one around Chilton County.

Isabella High School clinched a third straight regional title with a victory over Luverne High School, and others around the county played games that will be meaningful to the playoff picture.

Here are how all of the Chilton County teams performed in week 10.

 

Maplesville 42

Autaugaville 6

 

A week after clinching the regional championship, Maplesville finished off its regional schedule with a dominant win over Autaugaville. The victory brought the Red Devils’ record to a perfect 9-0, and they finished 6-0 in regional play.

Autaugaville was the first to get on the scoreboard in this game. The Eagles forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown, giving them a 6-0 lead.

Maplesville immediately responded with a 65-yard touchdown by Brady Harrison. The Red Devils took a 7-6 lead on the extra point and never looked back.

Maplesville went on to score five more touchdowns. Three of Maplesville’s six scores belonged to Brady Harrison, who also finished the game with 235 yards rushing.

 

Highland Home 21

Thorsby 14

 

Thorsby lost a tight contest to Highland Home in the last week of regional play. The loss brought Thorsby’s record to 5-4 on the season, and the Rebels finished fourth in their region.

Both teams had clinched playoff spots coming into the game. This one only mattered for playoff seeding.

Highland Home jumped out in front early in this game. The Flying Squadron scored the first touchdown of the game before adding two more in the second quarter, giving them a 21-0 lead at halftime.

The Rebels came storming back in the third quarter. A pair of touchdowns brought Thorsby within one score of tying the game, but the Rebels were unable to get the tying score, falling 21-14.

 

Pelham 35

CCHS 14

 

Chilton County High School fell to Pelham High School in week 10, finishing 0-6 in regional play for a second straight season.

The loss was the Tigers’ fourth straight, bringing their overall record to 2-7. Pelham moved its record to 6-4 with the win.

The Panthers took control of this game in the first half. They scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first two quarters, taking a 28-0 lead into halftime.

CCHS was not able to get on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, but by that time, it was already too late. Cannon Miller ran for one score and threw another to Jakobe Worthy, but the early deficit cost the Tigers.

 

Notasulga 62

Verbena 0

 

Verbena High School finished its 2021 season with a loss at the hands of Notasulga High School. The loss gave the Red Devils a final record of 4-6 while the victory bumped Notasulga’s record up to 8-1.

The Blue Devils scored 28 points in the first half, and they did not let up in the second half. They dominated all four quarters, ending Verbena’s season with a fourth straight loss.

The 2021 season was a step in the right direction for the Red Devils. In their first year under head coach Allen Brothers, the Red Devils won more games than they have in years. Their strong 4-2 start was marked by a greater sense of competitiveness, and they will only get better.

Look for even more progress to be made in year two of Brothers’ rebuild.

 

Shelby County High School 48

Jemison 7

 

Jemison High School’s struggles continued in week 10 as the Panthers fell to Shelby County High School, finishing regional play with a 0-6 record. The loss dropped Jemison’s overall record to 0-9.

Difficulties on both sides of the ball plagued Jemison in this one as neither unit found much success against the Wildcats. Shelby County came into the game averaging just over 16 points per game on offense, however, they were able to surpass that average against a Panthers defense that has given up an average of over 42 points per game this season.

On offense, the Panthers struggled against a Shelby County defense that has been stout this season.

The victory for Shelby County improved its record to 4-5 overall, and the Wildcats clinched second place in their region with the victory.
