The pursuit of a suspect said to have shot at a Prattville Police officer has shut down Interstate 65 in both directions near mile marker 205.
Highway 31 above the interstate was also closed for a while to keep residents safe.
Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon said the suspect’s car tires were spiked near Exit 205 . However, the suspect Robert Ogle, a white male thought to be in his 40s or 50s, would not negotiate with police or leave the vehicle.
Other law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and gas was deployed into the vehicle trying to get Ogle to come out.
Shearon said Ogle was seen aiming a pellet gun replica of a .22 caliber rifle at his chin and pulling the trigger.
The Chilton County SWAT team moved in and was able to taze the suspect and remove him from the vehicle, Shearon said.
Ogle was transported to the hospital. Shearon said even a pellet gun can cause injury.
The suspect’s vehicle will need to be removed by a tow truck before Interstate 65 can fully open, Shearon said.
