The Maplesville Town Council has named Robbie Autery as the new police chief.
Autery will start in his new position on Jan. 1.
“This is where I had my first paying job as a police officer,” Autery said of why he was interested in the position.
Currently, he is a part of the 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and has 15 years of experience in law enforcement.
Autery wanted to come back to the Maplesville Police Department and be a part of community police work.
He said he was looking forward to “bringing integrity, professionalism, getting out and getting more back to community policing to where we actually get out and visit with the residents.”
Autery said he also wanted the department to build good relationships with the community.
Resumes were accepted for the position of police chief after former chief Todd Ingram was not reappointed to the position.
The Council had planned on holding interviews but instead chose to decide on Dec. 7 and approve Autery to the position.
