Chilton County High School announced the morning of Oct. 1 that it has decided to cancel its scheduled region football game against Helena on Oct. 2.

According to head coach Tal Morrison, the decision was made because of a lack of preparation time after several CCHS players were placed under quarantine due to COVID-19 contact tracing.

The majority of players have not tested positive for COVID-19 but are forced to quarantine as a precautionary measure by Chilton County Schools.

News of the quarantined players broke the evening of Sept. 30, which would have left CCHS with just one day of practice without those players.

It was both a competitive and safety standpoint that Morrison was contemplating prior to the decision, as the risk for injury increases if players are thrown into a situation that they are not properly prepared for.

Morrison has high hopes that the home contest on Oct. 9 against Wetumpka will proceed as scheduled with a proper week to prepare for it.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I feel confident that we can put together a proper plan to play next week,” Morrison said.
