The Chilton County Commission approved a budget of $22,772,056 for its 2020-21 fiscal year during its meeting on Sept. 8.

The budget is broken down with the majority of money divided up into the general, roads and sheriff/jail funds.

For the coming fiscal year, the general fund was allotted $4,176,612, while the Sheriff/jail fund will have $5,521,400.

The roads fund has the most of any grouping with $9,297,906, and the remaining $3,776,138 was spread out across all of the other departments.

The approved budget is nearly $2 million more than the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget.

Commissioner Allen Caton was the lone vote to oppose the budget.

The Commission also agreed to a 10-year term loan with Central State Bank to help finance the second phase of the Commission’s road project initiative.

According to Commissioner Steve Langston and County Attorney Roger Bates, both said that the loan rates are some of the lowest they have seen and compared it to “free money.”

A work session to discuss the next road project was scheduled for Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.
