The Jemison City offices will be closed on July 5 following a vote of the City Council during a meeting on June 17.
Mayor Eddie Reed said Gov. Kay Ivey had made a proclamation for the state employees to have off this day, and the city was following this example.
“I think it is a good thing,” Reed said.
He said having the day off will be beneficial to city employees that are traveling for the holiday.
As in year’s past, city offices will be closed on July 4.
Reed also thanked City Clerk Vicki Potts for doing a good job for the city with the city’s finance records especially recent amendments needed to the current budget.
The Council is planning a work session to ask detailed questions about the most recent audit. The audit will be approved during a voting session at a later date.
Also during the meeting, the Council discussed changes coming to the trash pickup schedule.
Starting July 1, trash for all residents east of Highway 31 will be picked up on Wednesday. Those who live on Highway 31 and west of Highway 31 will be picked up on Thursday.
The schedule for dumpster pick up will remain the same. Routes scheduled for July 4 will be picked up on July 5.
