The Town of Thorsby Water Department is in the early stages of updating its meters and wells. This was discussed during the Town Council meeting on April 1.
The first step in the process will take place with a meeting at the Thorsby Annex building at 2 p.m. on May 1.
According to Public Works Director Terry Jackson, the town is preparing to receive bids from prospective businesses to work on the project.
The bid is prepared to open on May 8 and will include the changing of both meters and wells.
“We’re going to tackle them both at the same time,” Jackson said.
According to Jackson, meters have an estimated lifespan of about a decade, which many of the Thorsby meters have passed.
Roughly 1,100 meters are planned to be changed throughout the town. However, some of them could be retrofitted which would bring the overall cost down.
“If the numbers are high for meters, we may have to do it in house,” Jackson said.
The Council also approved the minutes from the March 18 meeting and to pay the bills and transfer the funds.
The next Council meeting will be on April 15 at 6 p.m.
