The Chilton County Commission voted to extend and pay the insurance of suspended employee Angela Fulmer for one month during its meeting on March 26.

According to Commission Chairman Joseph Parnell, the decision came after the advisement of the county’s new attorney Roger Bates.

Commissioner Steve Langston abstained from the vote based on the legal council’s advisement.

Commissioners Jimmie Hardee and Matt Mims were absent from the meeting. Hardee was on vacation while Mims had to tend to an emergency with his farm animals.

The extension will provide Bates the necessary time to get settled in and up to date with the situation at hand.

Fulmer’s insurance was set to be terminated on April 1.

The matter was first brought up in the public work session prior to the meeting.

County Engineer Tony Wearren proposed the addition of “no big trucks” signs along County Road 68.

According to Wearren, County Road 68 is a cut through road that was chip sealed last fall and has a lot of residents living along it. However, the road was not designed with commercial truck weight limits in mind.

The plan moving forward will include directing the heavy trucks to County Road 51, which Wearren said is about to be redone and will be more equipped to support such heavy loads.

The Commission approved Joe Headley’s request to video record the sales tax public meeting on April 2, so that it can be posted online afterward. It will be held in the Commission chambers at the Chilton County Courthouse at 6 p.m.

A final sales tax public meeting is scheduled on April 4 at Maplesville Town Hall, also at 6 p.m.

In other news from the meeting:

• The Commission approved the final plat for the Peach Meadows subdivision located off of County Road 49 and developed by Denny Carrol.
• Parnell was authorized to sign a memorandum of understanding to allow Central Alabama Electric Cooperative to utilize power polls that are on county right-of-way during their efforts to get broadband throughout the county.
• Selena Patterson and Ashley Peters were reclassified as full-time corrections officers effective March 23.
• Whitney Barlow was nominated for the Chilton/Shelby Mental Health Board. Nominations will remain open until the next meeting on April 9.
• Appointment of a new fire association president to the 911 Board was tabled.
• Jeff Williams was re-appointed to the Chilton Water Authority.
• The Commission decided to take no action regarding the state’s back-to-school sales tax holiday in July. According to Parnell, the county government does not get any of money from those taxes, and it would actually cost the county money.
• No nominees were named for the Board of Equalization. It will remain open for nominations.
• The Commission approved the minutes from the March 12 meeting.
• The Commission approved to pay its bills.
