The Jemison City Council presented a plaque of appreciation to the Jemison Quarterback Club during a meeting on March 18.
Mayor Eddie Reed said the plaque was to honor those who had been influential in raising funds for Jemison High School’s multipurpose building and renovation of the field house. Several of those involved were present at the meeting for the recognition.
“It is a recognition long overdue,” Reed said.
He said it was good to see graduates of JHS coming back to volunteer and help the school.
“They work extremely hard,” Reed said. “All the work they have done and the amount of work they have done in giving back to the community something for future students to enjoy goes way beyond our words.”
Names of those who had been a part of the work were listed on the plaque with the hope that the school will find a place to display the plaque in the multipurpose building. Those honored included Keith Mims, Mark Bolton, Tammy Henderson, Brian Jackson, Brad Jackson, Kevin Mazengo, Michelle Headley, Glenn McGriff, Kenny Bolton, Adam Plier, Joey Gillespe, Annette Stokes, Tim Wyatt, Tim Glenn, Denise Glenn, Kevin Hayes and Tracy Smith.
JHS was one of the first high schools in Chilton County to have a multipurpose building.
Reed gave the City Council an update on the County Road 756 project. Preliminary work on the project has been done and prices for a long-term fix for the road are being researched.
“As soon as we get the pricing on what the actual work will cost we will bring it back to the council for approval,” Reed said.
Also during the meeting, the City Council:
- Paid the bills.
- Declared a 2007 car in the police department surplus. The vehicle will be sold and the proceeds will be used to purchase equipment another police car.
- Approved six people as reserve police officers.
- Declared Spring Clean Up Week to be April 22-26. Residents will be able to put tree limbs by the side of the road for pick up. Unacceptable items include tires, batteries or paint.
