The Thorsby Town Council approved the use of Municode to go through all of the town’s codes to help bring them up to date during its Sept. 5 meeting.

The service will cost $9,000 and include attorneys going through the codes and making them concurrent with the state standards.

According to Mayor Robert Hight, several of the codes are outdated and the services that Municode provides are the necessary step.

The Council will be involved throughout the process and will have the ability to make adjustments and recommendations along the way.

Thorsby Fire Chief James Conner informed the Council that the fire department is in trial runs of wearing a new clothing material for its uniforms that is a blend of 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester.

Councilman Neil Benson asked if the polyester blend would create problems with the high temperatures that are faced while fighting fires.

Conner assured Benson that it would not be a factor and that the blended material meets the safety recommendations.

The Thorsby Fire Department will also be hosting a driving simulator Oct. 29-Nov. 1. It will be available for any department in Chilton County that wishes to take part.

In other news from the meeting:

• Brady McLaughlin was hired as a part-time employee with the fire department.
• Blake Turner was promoted from a seasonal employee to full-time with the public works department in order to help fill a vacancy.
• Terry Jackson is looking into finding a truck with an arm and grapple for limb pickup around town. It would replace the skid-steer loader currently being used.
• The Council approved $525 for sponsorship in the Swedish Fest program.
• The Council congratulated Police Chief Rodney Barnett, who completed 240 hours of training in the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program.
• The minutes from the Aug. 20 Council meeting was passed.
• It was approved to pay the bills and transfer the funds.
