Jerrett Posey is known throughout the halls of Thorsby High School, and for good reason.

Many of those relationships have been developed over the past six years since he joined Thorsby FFA as a seventh grader.

In many ways Posey credits his time in FFA for helping to make him into the person that he has become.

“I was always the quiet kid that sat in the back of the room and never really talked to anybody,” Posey said. “Now pretty much everybody in this entire school knows me.”

Posey will be attending Mississippi State University in the fall, where he plans to major in ag communication connections.

“I’m excited to finally step out on my own,” Posey said. “It’s anticipation mixed with the excitement of what that’s going to be like.”

The major requires a focus in communication and mass media along with ag classes.

According to Posey, starting an agritourism farm is something that he has considered after college.

“It’s just like any other farm, but a place where people can go to learn where their food comes from,” Posey said. “Even someone who has been in agriculture their whole life can come and learn about new techniques.”

Posey did not grow up in a typical farm setting with about an acre of land and eight chickens as livestock.

However, FFA led him to appreciate the importance of agriculture and explore a future career in the field.

“It was Mr. [Brian] Lucas who really got me involved in it and sparked that interest,” Posey said. “He got that passion going for me.”

It does not take long to realize that Posey’s faith in God is strong and helps give his life direction.

He recently started a Youtube channel called No Quit Ministries where he shares the word of God through his experiences.

According to Posey, he does not yet know what role he will have in ministry, but is positive that he wants to be a part of it in some form or another.

“Whether that is being a Sunday school teacher or the next Billy Graham,” Posey said.

It was the relationships that he developed during his trips to Mississippi State that helped in the decision-making process.

According to Posey, he was impressed with the amount of times that Mississippi State had reached out to the Thorsby ag program despite being out of state.

“That means a lot,” Posey said.

Posey has been a member of several school organizations, such as Beta Club, National Honor Society and First Priority, which is a faith-based program. He also played football.

Throughout all of his extracurricular activities he has always tried to leave a lasting influence to the younger students.

He has one more message for them prior to walking across the stage one last time on graduation night.

“No matter the situation, I believe that with hard work and a little bit of faith, you can do a lot of things,” Posey said.
