A one-car accident occurred on Highway 31 in Thorsby just after noon on Sunday.
According to Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett, the accident took place when a car traveling southbound on Highway 31 at a high rate of speed lost control and went off the road eventually colliding with a concrete power support pole just down the road from Lighthouse Church.
The driver was the only person in the car during the time of the accident.
When Barnett arrived on the scene there were several people that had pulled off the road in an attempt to assist in the rescue of the driver.
The person involved in the accident has not been identified at the time, but was in stable condition and transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for further care.
At one point the driver was entrapped in the car as it caught fire and people were pouring bottled water on the flames in an attempt to extinguish the blaze.
An update on the medical condition of the driver has not yet been released.
