Thorsby’s 2017 senior class took the step from candidates to graduates during a graduation ceremony on May 25.

Family and friends packed into the school’s auditorium to watch as all 59 members of the senior class took the journey across the stage and toward their life’s next venture.

Senior class president Chandler Moon welcomed everyone to the special occasion and did so in Spanish to briefly demonstrate one of the many things he learned during his time at Thorsby.

Moon’s speech served as a checklist and ran through the seven core subjects that are such a major part of the learning process for every student at the school.

Lilly Barnett delivered the valedictorian address and during her speech said that it just sunk in that she would never again have the opportunity to represent the Rebels in her No. 11 basketball jersey.

“This was a year of lasts,” Barnett said to her fellow classmates.

Jarrett Price was the salutatorian of the class.

“I encourage you to follow your dreams and do what makes you happy,” Price said.

Drake and Mark Twain were quoted during the speeches.

Reiterated in nearly every speech was the amount of success, which seemed to come naturally despite Thorsby’s smaller size.

Principal Corey Clements was joined on stage by assistant principal Tim Fortner, as well as a special appearance from former principal Russ Bryan.

A sense of pride was evident by all those in attendance, many of who witnessed first hand the hard work that the graduating class had put in since Kindergarten.

“Be phenomenal or be forgotten,” Price said.
