The 2017 Chilton Area Peach Production Meeting will be held on Tuesday Jan. 24 at the Alabama Power Company building in Clanton from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Supper will be served.
At 3 p.m. the new Grower Exhibition will open where producers can have free skin cancer screenings by Dr. Raj Patel with True Dermatology, as well as the opportunity to visit with program speakers, Extension specialists and regional farm business agent Kevin Burkett.
Don Wambles, Director of the Alabama Farmers Market Authority will demonstrate how to accept debit, credit and SNAP cards at the market project management online.
Participants can visit the nutrition education table for healthy recipes and produce bags, while learning about food product development opportunities at the Chilton Food Innovation Center (CFIC).
Farmers who contact the Extension Office in advance can also pick up their grower’s permits at that time.
Speaker presentations are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. to discuss orchard management in a low chill year, pest management updates from Extension Entomologist Brett Blaauw, Alabama Extension specialists’ fruit research at the Chilton Research and Extension Center, new produce safety requirements, and 2017 changes to the worker protection standards.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
