Jemison’s first “J-Days” event will offer residents the opportunity to hear some great music, go for a run and have some fun.

The event is scheduled for March 19, and all are invited to take part.

A fun-filled day is planned by the city with something for just about everyone.

The second annual “Jemison’s Got Talent” is a highlight of the event and is open to all. This event will be held at the Jemison Municipal Auditorium.

Age divisions are 4-12, 13-17, and 18 and older. Fees are $25 for single entries and $50 for group entries.

For anyone interested in participating, there is a mandatory rehearsal on the evening of Friday, March 18.

Applications for the Jemison’s Got Talent will be available on the city of Jemison website (jemisonalabama.org) and should be mailed or emailed, but a signed copy of the application form and payment should be brought to the rehearsal on March 18.

The schedule (with some times approximate as the day progresses) is as follows:

•7 a.m.: Registration for the run

•8 a.m.: 5K race

•9 a.m.: 1-mile race

•9:30 a.m.: Kiddie Dash

•10:00 a.m.: Awards

•10:30 a.m.: Weightlifting competition (sponsored by Anytime Fitness)

•1 p.m.: Band concert by Jemison High School band

•2-4 p.m.: Scheduled group performances including Jemison Middle and High School cheerleaders (these will be outside)

•4 p.m. (time is approximate): Jemison’s Got Talent

J-Days events will occur in and around City Hall and the Municipal Complex Auditorium. In addition to the scheduled events, there will be a Kid Zone with activities for children including face painting, bouncy houses and games that are available throughout the day.

The Red Zone restaurant will be offering $5 meals with choices including a hamburger, barbecue sandwich, or two hotdogs. Each choice comes with chips and a drink included.

Other fun food options include Kona Ice and Girl Scouts cookies.

“Promoting the city of Jemison and providing the opportunity for the community to just get out and enjoy each other is a goal of the planned annual event,” said city librarian Tammie McGriff, who is one of the event organizers. “Clanton has the Peach Festival, Thorsby has the Swedish Fest—it’s just time for Jemison to offer something as well.

McGriff said organizers want to see the event grow in the years to come.

“Everybody remembers the great concert offered by country music singer Marty Brown last year, and he is back this year to offer the grand finale to J-Days,” she said.
