Jemison announces schedule for holiday events

The Jemison City Council discussed the upcoming holiday events at the regularly scheduled council meeting on Monday.
On Nov. 24, the city will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. at the Jemison Municipal Complex.
This year, there will be a community communion ceremony, which will be held at 6 p.m.
At 7 p.m., “Mr. and Ms. Jemison” will be announced. The event will also include music, skits, singing, dancing, and a live nativity scene. The event is free, and to sign up or participate in the entertainment portion, contact Tammie McGriff at (205) 688-4491, Extension 303.
The annual Christmas parade will be held Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. Line up for parade participants begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of Jemison High School.
The parade will travel down Highway 31 and end at Jemison First Baptist Church.

There is also the annual Jemison Angel Tree program where individuals from the community can select an angel from the tree at Jemison City Hall and purchase Christmas gifts for those in need.
Anyone interested in participating in the Jemison Angel Tree program should bring the gifts, paper and angel ornament to the Jemison Public Library by Dec. 11.
The purpose of the program is for individuals from the community to purchase Christmas gifts for those in need.
The library is open Tuesday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and close for lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day.
The council also voted to pay all necessary bills and approved the council minutes from the Nov. 2 meeting.
