The Thorsby offense provided much-needed heat, as the Rebels took a 16-0 win over host Isabella on an otherwise frigid Friday afternoon.
The Rebels got on the board first, as Conner McRae led off with a single and Christopher Brown followed with a triple. McRae scored on the Brown triple, with Brown coming home on a Bailey Sellers single to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Isabella looked poised to respond, as Jacob Davis and Jacob Carroll each reached base with one out, but two straight outs by the Rebels defense ended the Mustangs’ scoring chances.
The Rebels added five more runs in the second, as Wesley Posey, Tyler Bowden and Grayson Bice, along with McRae and Brown, came across to give Thorsby a 7-0 lead.
After the Rebels retired the side, Posey scored to give the Rebels a 8-0 lead.
Tyler Smith provided a spark for the Mustangs, adding a single, but the Rebels kept the Mustangs off the board again to preserve the shutout.
Thorsby’s bats came alive again, exploding for four more in the top of the fourth.
Jayson Owens took a beanball from Ethan Wendell to open the inning, as did Zachary Morris.
Walks to Wesley Posey and Tyler Bowden followed, with Bowden’s walk bringing in Owens.
Kelan Mims came on in relief for the Mustangs following the walk to Bowden.
A walk to Grayson Bice brought in a run to give the Rebels a 10-0 lead.
Two more runs came in to score for Thorsby, giving the Rebels a 12-0 lead midway through the fourth.
A double play ended the Mustangs’ scoring hopes in the bottom half of the inning, and the Rebels tacked on four more in the top of the fifth.
Owens led off with a single, and a chopping single by Austin Knight put Owens into scoring position.
Jarrett Baker then recorded two consecutive strikeouts for Isabella, before an error and a bases loaded hit batsman led to a pair of runs to give Thorsby a 16-0 lead.
Owens recorded a long fly out for the final out of the half-inning, with his squad up, 16-0.
The Mustangs went three-up, three-down to end the contest and give the Rebels a 16-0 win.
McRae went 2-for-3 for Thorsby, scoring two runs and posting five RBI, while Brown went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI.
For Isabella, Davis and Carroll each went 1-for-2.
