Thorsby girls win third straight game

Thorsby’s varsity girls basketball team kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 46-28 win Monday over a Tigers team that is still seeking its first win.
After early baskets by both teams, a Lillyanna Barnett score extended the Rebels’ lead to two points early in the first period.
Zakeya Robinson then went to work for the Rebels, accounting for the next nine Thorsby points, all from the free throw line.
Robinson finished the first period a perfect nine-for-nine from the line.
At the end of the first period, the Rebels led 15-2.
Alexis Blackmon add a couple of early baskets for the Tigers to start the second period, and with a Kristina Caton free throw, the Tigers drew to within 10 points of the lead, 17-7.
Five straight points from Barnett aided in extending the Thorsby lead to 26-9 at halftime.
Salena Stoneback started the third period with a Tigers basket that was answered by Ellison for the Rebels.
Morgan Dennis and Kaley Lucas combined for two more Tigers buckets, but another Ellison score kept the score at 30-15 in favor of the Rebels.
Lucas went on to add six more Tigers points in the period, but after three periods of play, the Tigers trailed 32-22.
Kadesha Lee start the fourth period off with a three-pointer for the Tigers to draw Chilton to within seven of the lead, but four straight points by Robinson extended the Rebels’ lead back to 11 at 36-25 early in the final period.
Robinson and Adison Argent added five more for the Rebels to make the score 41-28 for Thorsby with 3:10 left to play.
The two paired up once again for a three-point run to make the score 44-28.
Two free throws by Argent brought the game to its final score and gave the Rebels their third straight win.
Robinson led the Rebels with 17 points (including shooting 13-of-15 from the free throw line), eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Lucas led the Tigers with eight points, 11 rebounds, one steal and one block.
