Jemison’s volleyball squad rallied from an opening set loss on Oct. 16 to take a five-set victory, 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-25, 15-12), from Montevallo on Senior Night at Alton Cobb Gymnasium.

The win improved JHS to 16-14 on the season, guaranteeing the Panthers a winning season with the area playoffs just around the corner.

Montevallo took advantage of too many Jemison errors in Set 1 to take a 25-15 win.

Cassini Steele posted three kills and a block in the set, while Ashley Dutton totaled two kills, four digs and an ace.

Set 2 was a total reversal, as the Panthers dominated at the net with seven players contributing kills. JHS also got outstanding serving from Taylor Ray, Emily Spain and Dutton to even the match at 1-1.

Jemison carried the momentum into the third set, as Ray and Keegan Robinson hammered out four kills each and C.C. Wright added three of her own to lead JHS to a 25-13 win.

Spain aided the Panther cause all around the court with two kills, three assists, three aces and seven digs.

Errors plagued the Panthers once again in Set 4, and Montevallo took full advantage, taking another 25-15 victory.

Steele was the lone bright spot offensively with three kills, while Dutton contributed two kills, two assists and four digs.

Set 5 went back and forth the entire way, with Jemison falling behind 6-4 before taking a timeout and rallying for a 7-6 lead.

It was then the Bulldogs’ turn to swing the momentum with a timeout, as Montevallo raced back out to a 10-8 advantage.

From that point on, however, it was all Panthers, as Jemison won several long rallies with great defense to take the game and the match, 15-12.

In the fifth and decisive set, Robinson, Cole, Ray, Spain and Kelsey Lowery each had three or more digs to lift the Panthers to the win.

For the match, Steele led all attackers with 11 kills and three blocks, while Spain had eight kills and Wright and Robinson chipped in seven apiece.

Dutton dished out 14 assists, while Spain contributed 13.
