Thorsby’s varsity volleyball team made it a perfect 2-0 on the week by taking down Billingsley on Thursday, 3-1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-20).
The first set of the evening was close until Thorsby (7-8 overall, 1-0 area) went on a four-point run thanks to three kills from Sabrina Ellison and an ace by Zakeya Robinson to take a 12-8 lead.
The Rebels’ lead wouldn’t stand as Billingsley (4-12, 1-1) went on a four-point run of their own behind the serving of Kaitlan Reed to take a two-point, 17-15 lead.
With a 24-20 lead, a Jada Lucas kill gave the Bears the first-set win, 25-20.
With Katlyn Watley picking up two aces, the Rebels started the second set on a six-point run to take an early 6-1 lead.
With the Bears down just two at 11-9, the Rebels picked up 11 consecutive points behind three aces by Erica Hilyer to take a 25-12 win in the second set.
THS started the third set with a slim 4-2 lead before consecutive aces by Billingsey’s Hannah Caver tied things up at 4-all.
With Billingsley leading 19-16, Ellison took over serving duties for the Rebels and, aided by two kills from Robinson, went on a three-point run to tie the set at 19-all.
With the set score tied at 23-all, Robinson picked up an ace while serving for the Rebels, as Thorsby picked up the win, 25-23.
The Rebels started the fourth set with another large run as Watley led Thorsby from her serving position on a nine-point run to put the Rebels up 10-1.
Down 24-17 late in the set, three consecutive aces by Spencer Simpson cut into the Thorsby lead, but it wasn’t enough as the Rebels earned the set and match win.
Lucas led Billingsley with two kills and six aces, while Simpson added three aces and three kills for the Bears.
Ellison had six kills and five aces, while Watley had eight aces for the Rebels.
