Jemison defenders track down West Blocton’s Leonard Ward IV in their fourth region game Oct. 4 at Panther Stadium.

The Jemison Panthers (5–1 overall, 3–1 region) posted a 21–7 win Friday against region foe West Blocton (1–5, 0–4).

The Panthers put the first points on the board with a Kevin Nunn touchdown on a 1-yard run with 5 minutes to go in the first quarter.

With a 7-point lead, the Panthers struck again when Randy Satterfield caught a 28-yard pass from Nunn, giving Jemison six more with 4:14 left in the first.

The score was 14–0 in the Panthers’ favor at halftime, and they found the Tigers’ end zone later in the third quarter, again on a 19-yard pass from Nunn to Satterfield with 1:07 left to play.

West Blocton retaliated with its only touchdown of the night, with 6:42 to go in the fourth quarter.

For the Panthers, Nunn had 17 pass attempts and six completions for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

John Underwood had nine attempts for 72 yards rushing.

Keyshawn Jemison had 14 attempts for 69 yards rushing.

Satterfield had four receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

RaeQuane Jones led the defense with 20 tackles and two tackles for losses.

“That’s a scrappy, well-coached group of kids, and we’re happy to get out of here with a win, honestly,” Jemison coach Jake Hogan said. “Better to work after a victory than it is after a loss.”

Hogan said his team’s key positions are strong but could benefit from more work, along with the offensive and defensive lines.

“I feel like our offensive line is getting better week in and week out,” Hogan said. “We’re talented in key positions, but we’ve got to execute.”

During halftime, the Marine Corps League Detachment out of Birmingham performed the re-enactment of the flag raising at Iwo Jima, and veterans were recognized.
