About 800 residents in Thorsby and the surrounding area lost power Saturday after a large part of a pecan tree broke loose and severed a wire, according to Alabama Power spokesman Mike Jordan.
The outage occurred at 4:47 p.m. on Saturday. Part of the tree fell into a “primary wire,” such as those that run parallel to highways, near the intersection of Dakota Road and Alabama Avenue in Thorsby, Jordan said.
“The trouble was isolated, and most of the customers were restored about 42 minutes later,” Jordan said.
All residents affected were Alabama Power customers.
About 760 of the customers saw their power restored by 5:29 p.m., Jordan said, while APC crews repaired the downed conductor, and power to the remainder of customers was restored at about 8:40 p.m.
