When a group at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church in Jemison got together to discuss possible ideas for upcoming events at the church, Ron and Dee Jennings suggested an “old time” congregational singing.
“One night we were in a discussion about new things we could do at the church and we suggested getting everyone together to have an old-fashioned singing of hymns,” Jennings said. “Everyone liked the idea so we decided to host an event for the community to come together and sing.”
The event is planned for June 22 at 7 p.m. at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church located at 14731 County Road 51 in Jemison.
Jennings said anyone is invited to participate and those that know how to play an instrument are highly encouraged to attend.
“We would love to have anyone who plays a dulcimer, banjo, guitar, or anything they enjoy playing,” Jennings said. “We will be singing a lot of hymns from the Cokesbury Hymnal as well as from a new hymnal called Songs of Inspiration.”
Jennings will play the piano and hopes to have a large attendance for the event.
“We put this together to see how everyone would enjoy participating so if people enjoy it we would like to have this again,” Jennings said. “It is fun to get together and pick out different songs to sing while playing all kinds of different instruments.”
The event is free and open to all ages.
