Thorsby’s Town Council was given a favorable audit report Monday and then demonstrated its sound financial shape by purchasing some property.
Council members voted unanimously to purchase for $25,000 three pieces of adjoining property on Jackson Street, close to the Thorsby Annex, site of the council meetings.
Two houses are located on the property.
Prior to the purchase, the council heard from auditor Howey McNeill.
McNeill told the five council members in attendance (Roger Marcus was absent) that the town has more than $3 million in total assets, more than $1.2 million available in the General Fund and that revenue during Fiscal Year 2012 was about $340,000, which was about $100,000 more than projected.
“You guys did an excellent job,” McNeill said.
In other business, the council:
•Amended an ordinance to add arrests for drug precursor substances to a list of violations that lead to a fine contributing to the town’s drug tip fund.
•Received information about new energy codes that are in effect.
