As the high school basketball regular season comes to an end this week for most teams in Chilton County, the Thorsby Rebels finished their home schedule on Monday night against the Billingsley Bears.

Visiting Billingsley spoiled Senior Night for the two varsity THS teams, with the BHS girls winning 29-18 and the boys winning 52-46.

The Billingsley varsity girls (1-14 overall, 0-6 area) came into Monday night’s contest seeking their first win of the season and were able to upset the Rebels, 29-18.

Billingsley got out to an early lead in the first period, leading 8-4

at the end of the first and 12-10 at the half.

The two-point halftime deficit would be the closest the Rebels (2-19, 0-6) would get to the Bears, who would go on to a 19-14 third-period lead and

close out their first victory of the season.

Jade Glass of Billingsley led all scorers with 11 points to go along with four steals and a block.

Payton Wallace added 10 points, including shooting 10-of-14 from the free-throw line, along with one steal and a block for the Bears.

Devin Padgett led the way for the Rebels with five points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

The Thorsby varsity boys (8-12, 1-5) hoped for a better outcome than their counterparts, but again it was the Bears playing the roll of spoiler on Senior Night for the second time of the evening.

The Bears (6-12, 1-7) squeaked out an early lead in the first half, taking a 9-6 first-period lead.

Parker Bryan’s 10 first-half points for Thorsby and Trevor Tyus’s 10

first-half points for Billingsley led their respective squads during

the first half and the teams went to the break tied at 22.

Tyus and the Bears continued to lead through the third period, but hot

3-point shooting by Bryan and Houston Daniel kept the Rebels in the

game and only down four at the end of the third period.

Down five with 0:48.5 to play, Nathan Oldroyd knocked down two free

throws to bring the Rebels within three points, but Jarrett Acreman would make the Billingsley lead five again on the Bears’ next possession.

A missed shot down low and a couple of missed three-point opportunities late in the fourth period would seal the fate of the Rebels and give the Bears the win.

Tyus led all scorers for the Bears with 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds and three steals. Torrey Green added eight points, three rebounds and four steals for the Bears.

Bryan led the way for the Rebels with 16 points, five rebounds and four

steals. Daniel added 11 points, four rebounds and a steal.
