Jemison’s boys basketball team won the B.B. Comer Holiday Round Robin tournament.

The Panthers defeated Comer, 75-68, on Dec. 27; Beauregard, 61-48, on Dec. 28; and Fayetteville, 64-44, on Dec. 29.

Jeremiah Gates was named the tournament’s Offensive Most Valuable Player.

Also making the all-tournament team was B.J. Kornegay and John Underwood.

Against Comer, Gates poured in 23 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Kornegay and Austin Lovette also scored in double-digits, with 10 points each.

Lovette added four assists.

The game was tied at 53 after three periods of play, but JHS outscored its opponents 22-15 in the fourth period.

Instead of waiting until the end of the game again, the Panthers pounced on Beauregard early, leading 23-5 after one quarter.

Kornegay (15 points and seven rebounds) and Underwood (12 points and nine rebounds) led the Jemison effort.

In the team’s third tournament win, Gates scored 23 points and added 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Kornegay had 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the game; and Jesse Underwood had eight points, four assists and three steals.
