The Chilton County Board of Education approved hiring Allen Wilson of Jemison as principal at Jemison High School.

Wilson’s contract begins July 1, but the board has agreed to pay him for as many as eight additional days if he starts before then.

Wilson, a former teacher and administrative assistant in Shelby County, was among 49 people to apply for the JHS principal position.

“He’s been in education for a long time,” Superintendent Dave Hayden said of Wilson. “I think he’s going to work out well.”

The board also approved rehiring two nurses and hiring two additional nurses in order to have enough for all county schools, and adding one teacher unit at Isabella High School and combining two half units at JHS to make one counselor unit.

In other business, visitor Pam Price presented the board with copies of a grant for English textbooks for seventh–12^th grades at Thorsby High School.

Price said the grant, if approved, would furnish the school with $6,000 worth of textbooks.

The board approved an architect’s plans for a new band and P.E. building at Maplesville High School.
