In need of a reminder

It is not difficult to figure out, from the Bible, that we all stand in need of reminders. When the Apostle Peter wrote his brief three-chapter letter of Second Peter, he informed his readers in I Peter 1:12-15 that his purpose in writing was to remind them of some things that they really already knew and believed. I include his words here. “So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I shall soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.”
Believers need to be reminded of the simple truth from God’s word. This is one reason that I must spend at least 30 minutes early each morning reading through my “One Year Bible,” I need to be reminded every day of my life. This is one reason I am committed to being a faithful member of a Sunday morning Adult Bible Class, I need to be reminded. This is one reason I desire to hear my pastor preach, I need to be reminded. This is one reason Louise and I listen to John Macarthur from 5:30 until 5:55 each morning on our way to Shelby Baptist Hospital Volunteer Ministry, we need to be reminded. And this is a goal of mine in writing this Simple Truth each week, people need to be reminded of simple Bible truth, even if they know it and have been established in it.
Today, I want to remind you of three things that believers need to remember every day of their lives, and we find these in First Corinthians 6:19-20 as follows: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you are bought at a price. Therefore honor and glorify God with your body and your spirit, which belong to God.”
First, remember whom you belong to. You belong to God. Not only is He your creator, but he bought you with the priceless blood of His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and He has made His home in your body. You are not your own; you belong to God. Because of these mercies of God upon us, we must offer up our bodies once and for all to the Lord. As we remember every day who we belong to, this can do some very good things for us: in the way we think and speak and act and in our attitude and in our choices. It also encourages us that God will care for those who belong to him.
Second, remember that you do know God’s will and plan and purpose for your life. Our Scripture says, “Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God.” Often someone will say to me, “God has left me here for some purpose. I don’t know what it is.” Well I know! And now you know! God’s will and plan and purpose is that you seek to please the Lord; let Jesus be put on display in your thoughts, words, actions, plans and choices wherever you find yourself today. And ask the Lord that if he has something more definite, then to make it known to you.
Third, remember that you have God’s presence and help with you always. “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God.” God knows we have weaknesses and that we cannot live a life pleasing to Him in our own strength and determination. That is why He is always present, available and ready to strengthen us and meet our needs.
So, today and every day, remind yourself 1) Who you belong to, 2) What God’s will for you is, and 3) that you are never without the presence and help of God.
