Clanton Elementary staff will be adding new tools to their resource boxes thanks to funding from the Chilton Education Foundation PEECh grant program.

Art teacher Julie Harrison received $535 to purchase a Gelli plate set for print making.

The plates are covered with paint and then pressed down onto paper to create a pattern.

Harrison said the set will be used for all of her classes for multiple years.

“I would like to do more print making,” Harrison said. “I try to do one unit a year, so this will be a way to help me do that.”

She said once third grade is added to CES next school year, the materials could be used by up to 1,000 students.

Speech language pathologist Vivian Smith received $512 for sets of cards related to speech and sentence structure to help students develop good communication skills. The resources will help students in kindergarten and older at the school.

“It is always nice to get materials with current pictures and updated pictures,” Smith said.

Anita Price’s grant was for $327 to purchase materials related to phonics and reading. She said the resources will mostly be used for kindergarten but could also be used older grades if needed.

Each of the teachers said they were grateful to the organization for the funding.

This year’s recipients said they had received a PEECh grant in the past, but it had been several years since they had been awarded one.
