The Thorsby Rebels opened the 2020 season with a combination of excellent pitching and hitting performances en route to a 6-1 victory on the road against Isabella Feb. 15.
Four different THS pitchers teamed up to allow just one hit in the game by the Mustangs.
Tanner Jones got the start for the Rebels and was followed by Jacob Lockhart and Tucker “Dale” Patterson.
All three pitched two innings each before handing the duties over to Remington Taylor to close the deal in the final inning.
Jones and Patterson finished with five strikeouts apiece on the day.
Meanwhile, Thorsby outhit Isabella 12-1 with the bats in their hands and were led by Patterson who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Helping fuel the offensive onslaught was Lockhart, who went 2-for-4, and Andrew Edwards’s 2-for-3 performance.
Jones hit a home run to left field, his first of the season, to give Thorsby a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Isabella’s lone hit was a triple from Tyler Simmons in the bottom of the seventh inning. He later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by his brother Nick Simmons.
Nick Simmons started the game for IHS and allowed three earned runs and seven hits in three innings.
Despite the titled final statistics, the Mustangs held their own and did their best to keep pace with preseason No. 3-ranked Thorsby.
It was the season opener for both teams. The Rebels improved to 1-0, while the Mustangs dropped to 0-1.
