Hull & Russell P.C. Certified Public Accountants has been named the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce business of the month for January.
Representatives from the Chamber visited Hull & Russell on Jan. 13 to present them with the accompanying sign to mark the honor.
“It’s a very nice honor,” said partner Janice Hull. “The Chamber is always doing something good. I think people need to join the Chamber and then get involved.”
Hull said she bought the business from a CPA she worked for in 1988.
“I was working and out of school,” she said. “I told him I was ready to go back to college, and he said ‘you’re going to be a waste if you do anything except be an accountant.’”
Hull & Russell does income tax returns, bookkeeping, audits and reviews. Hull invites anyone who needs help in any of those departments to stop by the office at 502 Second Ave. S in Clanton or call 205-755-0655.
“I’m really fortunate,” Hull said. “I had a group of clients when I came here. I have been able to keep all of them that I can remember. The good thing about this business is I’m working for my friends. We have a good relationship with them. We are thankful that we can build a business here at home and don’t have to travel out of the area.”
Crystal Russell worked for Hull as she attended Auburn University in Montgomery and was made a partner when she turned 30.
The business also includes: staff accountant Tiffiany Nelson, who graduated from AUM with an accounting degree and is currently working on her master’s, recent UAB graduate Andrea Knight Williams and Debbie Davenport.
Hull said she owes Christina Wilkins and Rachel Martin with the Chamber a “debt of gratitude” for helping her while Hull managed the Chamber during a period of time when the entity was without a director.
“I’m pleased to see them growing in their careers at the Chamber,” Hull said. “Francine (Wasden, the new executive director) is doing a great job. My association with the Chamber has provided me with many friends as well as business contacts. In those early days of purchasing the practice, I never served on a committee that I didn’t come away with a new client and a new friend.”
