Alabama Power will be testing its lake-area emergency alert system Nov.20.
This includes the systems at Mitchel and Lay lakes in Chilton County, along with Harris and Bouldin dams that are also located on the Coosa River.
According to a release from the company, residents immediately downstream of those dams
may receive a phone call, text or email alert during the test. The system is used to notify
area residents in the event of an emergency.
The message sent out will include that this is only a test and there is no emergency.
“Safety is our top priority,” said Herbie Johnson, Alabama Power Hydro general
manager. “We test this alert system as well as sirens to make sure they are always
ready to go in the unlikely event of an emergency. We take this precaution and
preparation seriously.”
