Annual Peach Festival Cook-off June 22

The 2019 Peach Festival Cook-off has been set for 10 a.m. on June 22 at Senior Connection, 304 Park Plaza, in Clanton.
The annual event is part of the week of celebration during the Peach Festival.
There will be two categories this year: sweet and savory. There will once again be two age groups as well: people 19 and up in the adult division and ages 9-18 in the 4-H youth division.
One winner will be chosen in both categories for each age division. Winners will receive a cash prize and a Peach Festival T-shirt.
Deadline to enter the competition is June 19 at 4 p.m. Registration forms may be found at the Chilton County Extension office located at 504 First Ave. N. in Clanton.
“This year’s guest presenter is Janice Hall, regional Extension agent for food safety and quality with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System,” according to a flyer for the event. “She will demonstrate making and using fondant icing for decorating cakes and cupcakes. Anyone entering the contest will be invited to decorate cupcakes with fondant.”
According to the event flyer, the cook-off has the following rules:
- The dish entered must be homemade, not purchased or
- The dish entered in the contest must contain However, peaches may be fresh, frozen or preserved.
- Only one entry per person.
- The recipe need not be original.
- Judging will be based on using quality peaches (10 points), appearance (20 points), taste (60 points) and creativity (10 points).
- Dish must be registered and on the table ready for judging by 10 m.
- Winner must be present to win.
- Any recipe listing raw eggs will be disqualified (such as in ice cream custards). If a recipe calls for raw eggs, cooked custard or pasteurized egg products can be
