Maplesville Town Council members met for a work session and a voting session this month.
At the voting session, donations to the Chilton County Relay For Life and the Chilton Leadership Scholarship were unanimously approved.
Maplesville will once again be the Purple Chair Sponsor for Chilton County Relay For Life with a donation of $3,500. A donation of $100 will be made to the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce for the Chilton Leadership Scholarship program.
The Council unanimously approved replacing outdated body cams for the police department and purchasing a new copier for the Maplesville Fire Department.
A 25-cents-per-hour raise was unanimously approved for Melvin Morton to mark his three month anniversary working for the town.
Town Clerk Dawn Smitherman said the project on Mitchell Hill Road is not complete as the town had hoped it would be. A few issues were noted during an inspection and are being addressed.
During a work session on April 15, Town Council members met with Chilton County Board of Education Safe Schools coordinator Mickey Hardwick. The discussion focused on how the School Security Resource Officer for Maplesville High School would be paid. According to Smitherman, the Board of Education has been paying the Maplesville officer directly. However, the BOE will not have this option next year and would prefer to pay the town one payment to cover the service.
Another option discussed would be for the BOE to pay the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office for an additional school officer for Maplesville.
CCSO already provides officers, and receives payment to cover the cost, for Isabella High School, Verbena High School and Verbena Annex.
Since it was a work session, a decision is expected at a later meeting.
