The Clanton City Council unanimously approved a funding request from the Industrial Development Board for a total of $28,000 during its meeting on Nov. 8.

The funding includes $10,000 for an impact study and $18,000 for a topo/contour map, which will show elevations for a specific area of land.

Both documents would be needed before future development.

Funding was the topic of a few other motions during the meeting, including purchasing a pickup truck for the street department and renovation projects.

Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the street department had a vehicle that was not worth fixing and needed to be replaced.

A community member asked the Council to consider resurfacing the tennis courts before a high school regional tournament in April. The Council unanimously approved having two companies recommended by the resident come look at the tennis courts to see what needs to be done. Driver estimated that resurfacing all of the courts would cost $50,000.

Replacing the flooring on the first floor of the Clanton City Hall, except for the Council meeting room, was tabled, so that the project could be properly bid in compliance with bid laws.

Also during the meeting,

• Driver proclaimed November to be National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and presented a proclamation to Affinity Hospice, which serves Clanton.

“I am proud of the job that y’all have done to families that are really under distress,” Driver said.  “… You try to make them as comfortable as you can.”

• The Chilton County Commission came to present a thank you letter to the Clanton City Council for allowing the e-911 and the District Attorney to use office space at the Clanton City Hall after the basement of the courthouse flooded.
• Billy Singleton thanked the Council for its efforts to support the airport, Chilton County Chamber of Commerce and the recent Chilton County 150th celebration.
• The Council unanimously passed a motion to look into replacing a wooden bridge that connects Goose Pond and Clanton parks.
