Alabama Power donated $500 to Raleigh’s Place during a check presentation on Oct. 24.

Raleigh’s Place holds a four-week summer camp for foster children each year.

According to Raleigh’s Place co-founder Sharon King, the grounds of the complex have cabins that can sleep 25 people and can be used for group events or conferences during the offseason.

Around 200 children attend the camp each summer, and King believes that number can grow with more quality counselors on staff.

“More counselors means more kids,” King said.

Sharon and Tim King founded Raleigh’s Place as a Christ-centered foster care ministry in the mid-2000s.

The summer camp has been a major part since the beginning.

“We’ve been blessed after starting with 24 [foster children] the first year,” King said.

Van Forrester with Alabama Power presented the donation to King at the Alabama Power Building in Clanton.

Raleigh’s Place recently raised about $14,000 from Celebration, the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.

The event included 140 silent auction items, a spinning wheel of gift cards and an eight-minute video of a child giving testimony about how Raleigh’s Place has impacted their life.

“Thanks to all those who turned out in support,” King said.

It was the third-straight year that the event had been held at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center.

A new fundraiser this year will be Christmas Whistle-stop, which will include a visit from Santa and holiday gifts and crafts for sale.

It will take place over three days; Nov. 15-17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day on site at Raleigh’s Place located at 346 County Road 1028 in Clanton.
