The Barefoot Movement will be in concert at Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel on Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.

This bluegrass quartet, with “pop-infused melodies” has toured extensively in the United States as well as performing at some international venues, according to a press release.

Founding member Noah Wall said the name came from a time she had stepped out of the house with two different shoes on, and the phrase popped into her head.

“It fit so well because what we are all about is trying to get people to relax and have a good time and feel at home during our shows,” Wall said.

She started touring with band member Tommy Norris in college during breaks.  After graduation in 2011, they began touring full-time.

The group has changed members over the years, but the current group has been playing since about 2015.

Wall said she grew up listening to classic rock.

“The more that I listened to some of the bands that I felt had some acoustic inspiration like Led Zeppelin … I really liked the acoustic flair that they put in to their music and so I started wondering what did they listen to, and what did the people that they listened to listen to,” Wall said. “When you start to trace it back, it all kind of ends up in this sphere of traditional music.”

Her grandfather had also “played in a country band and my mother put me in fiddle lessons when I was in the second grade,” Wall said.

Her parents also listened to bluegrass music a lot.

The Barefoot Movement is Wall, Norris, Alex Conerly and Katie Blomarz.

Yes, they do perform without shoes on.

“We do mostly original music,” Wall said. “We do some traditional music … 5We have a lot of vocal harmony. Our shows are very centered on our vocals.”

Tickets are $15 at the door and will be sold starting at 2 p.m.

Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel is located at 11975 County Road 24 in Verbena.
