A new apartment complex is coming to Clanton.

The Estates at Kendal by The Vantage Group will bring 56 apartments, ranging from one to three bedrooms to Yellow Leaf Road.

Fyffe Construction Company out of North Alabama is doing the construction.

The project was discussed during a meeting of the Clanton City Council on July 23 in response to an audience member’s question. Activity on the street had prompted curiosity and concerns about damage to the street due to installing water and sewer pipes to the site being repaired.

Martin said The Vantage Group and Fyffe Construction Company will be required to fix the road. This was listed as a requirement when the site plan was approved by the Planning Commission.

While a specific timeline has not been set, Clanton building inspector Gene Martin expects the project to be complete in six to eight months.

Some of the units in the two-story complex will be handicap accessible.

Martin said a private company was building the apartments and would be leasing to the public without a restriction on age.

“It is a good company,” Martin said. “The guy that is building these he has them around the Southeast from Texas to Florida and Tennessee. It’s a good corporation.”

Also during the meeting, the City Council:

  • Paid a bill to W.H. Thomas Oil for gasoline.
  • Unanimously approved a rezoning from R-2 Residential to O-1 Office Space for a house located across from the Chilton/Clanton Public Library on First Avenue.
  • Hiring a full-time employee for Parks and Recreation since many of the part-time summer employees were going back to school.
